Robert Lee Massey

Mr. Robert Massey, the son of the late James and Annie Massey, is the long-time husband of Lottie C. Massey. Through life’s ups and downs, they were able to sustain a loving marriage for 65 years. Robert earned his high school diploma from Second Ward High School. After graduation, Robert was employed by Burris Chemicals for over 30 years. After leaving Burris Chemicals, he was employed with Van Waters Chemicals for over 10 years. Robert later retired and settled into a quiet life. Robert thoroughly enjoyed fishing. He often took trips to the coast to go deep sea fishing. Robert also enjoyed woodworking, fixing things and working with his hands. He has made numerous furniture pieces for family and friends that will last for many years to come. When Robert became ill and was unable to care for himself, he was able to remain at home and have his day-to-day needs taken care of with the assistance of family and his loving wife, Lottie C. Massey, who provided most of his care. Robert was a faithful member of Nazareth Primitive Baptist Church where he was a member of the Deacon Board and served on several choirs and auxiliaries. Robert later joined The Connecting Place at Greater Salem to be with his wife. While at The Connecting Place, Robert was appointed Father in Zion and was a member of the Deacon Board. Robert is survived by his children Elizabeth Meeks (Frankie), Robert Massey Jr, Tony Massey, Patrina Burrough, Patricia Massey, Eric Massey and Derrick Massey (Anissa). He is also survived by his 4th “daughter” Gray Dionn and his sister Elizabeth Massey Jenkins. Robert was preceded in death by his 2 brothers, W. C Porter and James Massey; his sisters Annie Lee Williams and Louise Ham; his grandson Eric Massey Jr and his son-in-law Darren Burrough, Sr. Robert is survived by grandchildren Trai Meeks, Chimaya Meeks, D’Aira Massey, Darren Burrough Jr, Darryl Walker Jr. and Darric Walker. Also left to mourn Robert’s absence are his Great-grandchildren Samora Massey (who he lovingly called “Peanut”), Tre’Sure McMullen and Darryl McMullen Jr. Robert is loved by a host of family and friends who will miss his presence daily.
