John Ard Hough

John Ard Hough was born on December 24, 1966, at Memorial Hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina. On May 15, 2026, he peacefully transitioned from this life, leaving behind a legacy of faith, craftsmanship, and unwavering dedication to God, his family, and his community. On November 13, 2009, John married the love of his life, Rosyln Rice Hough. Together, they raised two children and built a home grounded in love, faith, and unity. John was also blessed with four grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and pride. John received his early education at Winterfield Elementary School and Eastway Junior High. He later attended Garinger High School and graduated from Gallagher High School in Charlotte, North Carolina. At the age of six, John began his spiritual journey at Piney Grove Holiness Church under the leadership of Apostle Hazelene Wallace. His love for God continued to grow as he later joined Holy Divine Tabernacle in Charlotte, North Carolina, under Pastor Mary Pitts—a ministry that became his lifelong spiritual home. John was a gifted carpenter and a faithful worker at Holy Divine Tabernacle. He oversaw construction projects, landscaping, and various administrative responsibilities. His talents extended far beyond building: he played the drums, served as a videographer, and worked diligently on the church’s security detail. Pastor Pitts carried the vision, and John helped build it—literally and spiritually. His skills shaped the ministry, and his heart strengthened it. John was also known for his warm, humorous spirit. He loved to be funny, crack jokes, and bring laughter to those around him. His sense of humor was a gift he shared freely, brightening every room he entered. And if you knew John, you knew he loved to dress. Fashion was his second name. He took pride in looking sharp, stepping out with style, and flashing that unforgettable smile that completed every outfit. In addition to his church work, John was an entrepreneur who owned and operated a landscaping business in Charlotte. He was also a skilled mechanic, always willing to help anyone who needed car repairs. Whether fixing a neighbor’s vehicle or offering advice under the hood, John used his skills to bless others in every way he could. A dedicated and hardworking man, John held employment with Bi‑Lo from 1984 to 1989. Over the years, he also worked with Black & Decker, Lance, Crowder Construction, Lowe’s, and Rayders, earning respect for his strong work ethic and reliability. In 2007, John answered a deeper call and was ordained as a minister, continuing his lifelong commitment to serving God and His people. John Ard Hough will be remembered for his steady spirit, his gifted skills, his humor, his style, his loyalty, and his willingness to serve wherever he was needed. His life was a testament to quiet strength, unwavering faith, and love expressed through action. John was preceded in death by both of his parents, Anne Hough and Hazel Hough. He leaves behind his loving wife, Rosyln Rice Hough; his daughter and son, Shakira and Jerry; and four cherished grandchildren: Gernard, Anthony, Olivia, and Jamanon. He is also survived by one sister, Minister Tomelia C. Hough; sisters‑ and brothers‑in‑law Sandra Bell, Maggie Green (Willie), Catherin Bell (Rock Hill, S.C.), Charles Bell, and Samuel Bell III, all of Charlotte, N.C.; along with a host of cousins, nephews, extended family, friends, and all who were blessed by his presence. Though he has departed from this earthly life, the work he built, the music he played, the laughter he shared, the style he carried, and the love he gave will continue to live on.
