Major Java A. Henderson

Major Java Antonio Henderson, affectionately know by his mother as (Tony) was born September 1, 1981 to Mr. Antonio Renard Black (Bob and Frances Black) and Mrs. Angela Henderson Watson (Robert and betty Henderson) both of Charlotte, NC. Java (Tony) grew up in Charlotte, NC as a child Tony loved and had a passion for the military. He shared his love for the military with his younger brothers. They would strategize with Army action figurines and built forts in his grandmother’s back yard. He also had a passion for wrestling (WWE). One of his favorite wresters was Stone Cold Steve Austin. At a young age, Tony joined Abundant Life Christian Center under the leadership of Dr. Andrew Lockhart, where he remained a member until he went off to college and began his career in the United States army. He then attended Pastor Joel Olsten's church, Lakewood in Houston, Texas. Major Java Henderson attended Independence High School (Charlotte, NC) and was a member of the JROTC. He graduated with honors on June 3, 1999. High School Honor Awards: CMC Scholar National Honor society North Carolina Scholar International Studies Scholar Major Henderson attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and graduated in 2003 with a BA in Liberal arts. He was commissioned in the Army through Army Reserve Officer Training Program as a Second Lieutenant on 02 August 2003 as a Multifunction Logistician. MAJ Henderson’s assignments include Platoon Leader and Shop Officer for the 603rd Support Battalion at Hunter army Airfield from 2004 to 2005. Java then served as the Brigade S4 for the 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade from 2005 to 2007. MAJ Henderson served as as the Battalion S4 for the 2-3 General support Aviation Detachment serving in Iraq and Hunter Army Airfield from 2007 to 2009. Java served as Division Aerial Delivery Officer for 2nd Infantry Division at Camp Red Cloud and then served as company commander for the Aviation Maintenance Company for the 3rd Aviation Battalion at Camp Humphreys. His most recent assignment was the Brigade Assistant Planner for the 162 Infantry Brigade Headquarters at Fort Polk, Louisiana.MAJ Henderson is a graduate of the Ordinance Officer Basic Course and the Combined Logistic Officer Advance course. His awards include the Bronze star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Korean Defense Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon and the Overseas Ribbon with Numeral “2”. Henderson is survived by his daughters Kennedy Henderson and Ayana Anderson (Renee, Mother); his mother Mrs. Angela Henderson Watson and her husband (father) Michael Watson; his father Mr. Antonio Renard Black; his grandmothers, Betty Henderson and Priscilla Watson; his sister Mrs. Ignaia Jones (Latasia Black) and her husband Mr. Anthony Jones; brother Mr. Lopez Renardo Black; the late Lashonda Brooks (Blake). The Brothers: Bobby Black the III (Andrea), Tristen Black, Barbarino Black (Latora), Jeremy Black (Lindsey), Joshua Black, Jamaal Black, Noah Ingram. Robbin black (Bobby), Geneva Black (Randall), Lakeyta Ingram (Dwayne), Pamela Crawford (Kevin), Theresa Nash, Melvin Horton (Sharon), Sharon Horton, Wendell Black (Drucilla), Johnsie Black, Alford Robinson (Sandra), McKenzie D. Jones (niece), Arael J. Jones (nephew) and a host of other family members and friends.
