Gregory Taylor Lewis

Gregory Taylor Lewis, affectionately known as Greg, was a devout Christian, devoted son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and a special friend. Greg never met a stranger, and when you left his presence, you knew you had a new prayer warrior in your life. Greg entered this earthly life on March 19th, 1950, to the late Edwin Taylor Lewis and Alberta Duren Lewis, and transitioned from this life on May 22nd, 2024. Gregory received much of his education from both Catholic and public schools in Charlotte Mecklenburg. He graduated from West Charlotte Senior High School, class of 1968, and went on to become an active alumnus of his Alma Mater. During his earthly life, he was an avid active member of Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church, serving as a member of the eight o’clock Mass Choir, a Rosary Leader, and a Clerical Reader as well. Greg was a minister of the gospel regardless of where he was; there was never a moment when he was not speaking of the goodness of Jesus. His personality and light were one of a kind man, but he was also a well-dressed one. He knew how to put on and wear a suit. Greg relocated to New York for several years and returned home to begin his work at American Airlines as a skycap for over 30 years, retiring from that job over 10 years ago. After retirement Greg took on the role as the caretaker of his mother, Alberta, in her later years until her passing. In his pastime, Greg loved to fish and travel. He loved God and his family. A forever jewel has now transitioned, leaving a lasting smile to cherish forever. Surviving him are his children: Shante Nichole McCullough, Anthony Michael Nesbit (Andrea), and Demaris Marie Lewis, all of Charlotte, North Carolina; his grandchildren include Anthony Cameron Nesbit, Amari Christian Nesbit, Ashton Chance Nesbit, and Addison Chase Nesbit; sister Daphne (Lionel) Randolph of Raleigh, North Carolina; niece Kimberley Cole of Virginia; nephews Brian C Hayes of Charlotte, North Carolina, Allen W Cole Jr of Richmond, Virginia, Lionel Randolph Jr of Wake Forest, North Carolina, and Darrell Randolph of Raleigh, North Carolina; and a host of cousins, many loved ones and numerous friends. Greg now joins in eternal life with his mother Alberta D Lewis, Father Edwin T Lewis, sisters Edwina Lewis Hayes, and Bernardine Cole, and a host of uncles, aunts, and cousins.
