Betty Bradley

Betty Bradley was born June 28, 1943 in Monroe, North Carolina. She began her heavenly rest on March 10, 2022. Betty was the daughter of the late Mattie Lucille and Willie Kilgo. She moved to Charlotte, North Carolina at an early age and graduated from Second Ward High School. Betty could always be found with a beautiful smile on her face and a heart filled with love and kindness. Newco Fibre is the company that was privy to have Betty as an employee for numerous years prior to her retirement. Betty worked hard and she instilled those work ethics in her daughters. She was more than their mother, she was their role model which is evident in their career achievements. Betty knew God and she loved God and her family. She was a mother of four that worked diligently to ensure her children were well taken care of. Betty raised her children to love God and love others. She was an amazing cook and enjoyed preparing delicious dishes, especially for Thanksgiving family gatherings. Thanksgiving provided Betty with the opportunity to do what she loved to do and that was cook. Betty’s Thanksgiving meals would consist of the traditional Thanksgiving dishes, turkey, dressing, potato salad, greens and candied yams. Everything Betty prepared was delicious and the family favorites were her famous sweet potato pies and her delicious macaroni and cheese. Her macaroni & cheese would be so cheesy it would make your mouth water. Thanksgiving dinner also provided Betty with spending quality time with her family, which was a very important part of her life. The times with her family were always filled with love and laughter. Betty was a loving mother and grandmother and you felt the love anytime you were in her presence. Betty loved going to church, she was a good and faithful servant of God and Greater Temple Baptist Church. If there was a program or an event at church, Betty was in attendance until her health no longer allowed her to do so. She enjoyed listening to the preaching of the word of God and the songs of praise. Betty’s favorite hymn was “Do not pass me by” and she loved hearing Reverend Brenda Caldwell sing Amazing Grace. The pearly gates of Heaven opened wide on March 10th, Betty was welcomed in and God said “well done Betty”. Betty enjoyed shopping, especially at consignment shops. She looked good each time she walked out the door. Betty’s outfits were always crisp and every hair was in place, she liked to look good and she always did. She was an avid gardener that could turn weeds into beautiful flowers after showing them that Betty-Love that she was filled with. Betty was a ray of sunshine, if you were around her anything that might have been wrong appeared to disappear. She was like the advertising slogan once used by General Electric, “We Bring Good Things to Life”. If Betty touched your life, she bought good things to it. Those left to celebrate the life of Betty Bradley are daughters Deloris House (Derrick) Patricia Huse and Cynthia Huse-Smith all of Charlotte, North Carolina; grandchildren Kenneth McKay Jr., Ashley House, Pearlene Grier and Diamond Brown; sister Shirley Hunt; special loved one Kenneth McKay; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Betty was preceded in death by her son Andrea Terrell Huse; husband Edgar Harris Bradley; sisters Helen Sowell and Dorothy Austin; brothers Robert Kilgo, Lester Kilgo, Arthur Kilgo, Neil Kilgo and Alfonzo Kilgo. The phrase most commonly used to describe Betty is loving. The Webster’s dictionary definition of loving is showing great care. Betty was a loving woman and she always let you know she cared about you. Betty Bradley was loved deeply and she will truly be missed.
