Nathaniel Lee Hilliard Jr.

Nathaniel Lee Hilliard Jr was born June 2, 1960 in Brooklyn, New York. He was the son to the late Shirley Ann Douglas Reed and the late Nathaniel Hilliard Sr. Nathaniel transitioned on June 7, 2023 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Nathaniel was often called Nate by his wife Cora but affectionately by his family and friends he would go by “Foot”. Foot was raised in New York but later moved to Columbia, South Carolina after high school with his mother and siblings. He was the oldest and took pride in being there for his siblings. He joined the Army and served in Hawaii and overseas in Korea and Germany. He Retired from the military in 1986 but continued to work in the hospital. Foot and his wife Cora moved to Charlotte, North Carolina in 1989 to pursue a better life for their family. Foot was a loving husband and father. He tried to be the best that he could to everyone that he encountered. Right or wrong, Foot would tell you like it is. Foot loved football and baseball. He would get so excited to watch the games. Foot loved to talk, and he would have you talking for hours if he could. He would have you laughing and praying. He loved the Lord and would make sure you knew about God’s love and Grace. He ended each call with a prayer and “Just remember Jesus loves you”. His love for the Lord empowered him to be a giver especially within the community. He gave his time and partnered with Charlotte Metro Police Department for the Jamel Hilliard foundation. Despite some of the hardships in his life, Foot never lost faith. He loved watching all his grandchildren grow and had an important role in Nathaniel Hilliard IV “Nate Nate” and Miracle Starks Hilliard’s lives. Foot was preceded in death by his mother Shirley Ann Douglas Reed and his father Nathaniel Lee Hilliard Sr; his son Jamel A. Hilliard; his two younger brothers Tommy Hilliard and Carl Hilliard; and his nephew Christopher McNair Bailey Foot is survived by his wife Cora Denise Hilliard, his daughters: Shenise Brown of Charlotte, NC and LaTasha Sharpe of Charlotte, NC. His sons: Nathaniel Lee Hilliard III “Boo” of Charlotte, NC; Jamal Hilliard of Charlotte, NC; Jarod Starks Hilliard of Charlotte, NC; Raheem Gibby (Gastonia, NC). His siblings: Donna Hilliard of Orangeburg, SC; Kenneth Hilliard (Sherrie) of Columbia, SC; Joe Hilliard of Philadelphia, PA; Temeyka (Julius) Williams of Columbia, SC; Jerome (Jacqueline) Hilliard of Columbia, SC; Latina (Vanita) Hilliard of Columbia, SC; Terrence Hilliard of Charlotte, NC; Twenty grandchildren and one great grandchild; his siblings in law: Michelle McNair of San Antonio, TX; Willie WD McNair II of Riverside, CA; and Aquanette McNair Sims of Charlotte, NC; and a mass of nieces and nephews and other loved ones.
