Mrs. Jerome Johnson Watson

Mrs. Jerome Johnson Watson, was born in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina on September 30th, 1919 to Nelson & Ella Johnson, who proceeded her in death. She departed this life on December 30th, 2018. She was proceeded in death by her husband of sixty-two years, Andrew E. Watson and their son Andrew N. Watson. Mrs. Watson has been a faithful member of Antioch Baptist Missionary Baptist Church for over sixty years. While at Antioch, she served on many boards and ministries including being a Deaconess, the Senior Choir, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She attended the Charlotte City Schools, graduating from Second Ward High School in 1939. Upon completing her secondary education, she attended Barber Scotia College and graduated from Johnson C. Smith University in 1946 where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She was also one of the Charter members of the Beta Omicron Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority. For more than 20 years, Mrs. Watson taught at St. Gabriel Catholic School before retiring. She was an active member of the Grier Heights Community Association and Precinct Captain for the Mecklenburg County Board of Elections. Upon retirement, she shared her many artistic talents teaching crafts and floral arrangements to the seniors in her community. Jerome is proceeded in death by her four siblings, Gilbert, Raeford, Mary Lee and Andrew. She is survived by one Sister in Law Margaret Johnson (Raeford). Mrs. Watson leaves to cherish her memory: One daughter, Christine Sanders (Freddie) of Charlotte; eight grandchildren, Carlos and Nelson Watson, Andrea Tyson, Reginald, Jerome, Malcolm, Fred and Karen Sanders; and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
