Mr. Demetrice Shakeal Gillespie, beloved son with a captivating and memorable smile; also known to many as “Meechie”, was born on March 30, 1999 in Statesville, NC to William D. Gillespie and Tammy Tate Wilson. He departed life in Charlotte, NC on January 1, 2019 and entered into eternal rest. Demetrice’s life exemplified his committed love to his family, his passion for everything music, and his life’s greatest fulfillment; which was the birth of his son, Pierre Shakeal Gillespie. He was indeed a rare priceless jewel treasured by many. As a member of a heavily musically inclined family, Demetrice discovered his voice and love for music at a very early age. It was his love for music that brought joy, to not only his family and community, but would open doors for national recognition. Demetrice and Darius recorded their original music and performed locally. It was his gifted ability that inspired his devoted father, William, to pursue and cultivate his musical abilities by creating “G2G”- God’s 2 Gifts and later “D2;” a recording group comprised of Demetrice and his twin brother Darius. They received national recognition after appearing on “The Ellen Degeneres Show” in 2009. The twins would later appear on two additional airings of the show. Much to their success; Demetrice and Darius would then be afforded the opportunity to travel nationally and perform across the country. These opportunities included: their videos being featured on “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” and BET’s 106 & Park. Those opportunities opened doors for them to work with the Jonas Brothers, halftime performances for the then “Charlotte Bobcats,” and Tallahassee Nights Live, a tribute to Michael Jackson. They also auditioned for a Motown Musical in Atlanta and New York. All of these accomplishments led to them working with Quinnes “Q” Parker, from the musical group 112; as well as the Producer K-Fam. He attended Charlotte-Mecklenburg County Schools. Demetrice was known for his infectious laugh and amazing sense of humor. He was a notable singer, and a musician in his own right, Demetrice begin playing the drums at a very young age, and served as a musician for surrounding ministries.
