Clara Henderson

January 22, 1935 - June 2, 2022

Miss Clara B. Henderson (Coota) became a blessing to her family and to her mother, the late Margaret L. Henderson on January 22, 1935. Clara was the oldest of four siblings. She departed this earthly life on June 2, 2022 at the precious age of 87! Clara grew up in the Grier Heights Community on Orange Street where she resided until her departure. She joined Grier Heights Presbyterian Church at an early age and remained a member until death. Our beloved “Coota,” as she was affectionately named by her mother, was a 1956 graduate of Second Ward High School. Clara was a very independent woman in her quiet manner. She started her own business in her home - Henderson Nursery& Daycare Center. She and her sister “Shang” operated this nursery for more than 30 years! Coota and Sylvia touched the lives of many families and children throughout the community and beyond. Clara also enjoyed travelling with her sister, Sylvia to Canada, Mexico, Georgia, Washington, D.C., Atlantic City, Charleston, Orlando, Chicago, Philadelphia and New Orleans. She leaves to celebrate and mourn her life two sisters, Sylvia Bogany Henderson of the home and Barbara Izzard; two brothers, Edward Henderson of the home and J.B. Henderson of Charlotte. The family extends their sincerest gratitude and appreciation to Obie Blackwell, Walt and Gerry Wallace, Angela Daughtry, Inez & Raymond Alexander, Robert F. Brown, the Simpson and Watkins Families, Onis Polk, Marvin & Jeanette Price, Loretta Price and Paris Huntley. In addition, the family extends appreciation to Reverend Reggie Tuggle, Reverend Dr. Lloyd B. Morris; and our Musician, John Simmons. Also, we acknowledge the kindness of The Wilora Lake staff who assured that Clara’s last days were peaceful.
