Brian Bernard Sanders

Mr. Brian “Sandman” Sanders became an angel in heaven on March 11, 2016. Brian was born on November 30, 1972 in Landover, Maryland. Brian’s family later transitioned back to Charlotte, N.C. where he attended Our Lady of Consolation Catholic School. He also attended Independence High School and continued his education at Norfolk State University graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication. After completing college, Brian pursued his dreams of working in Mass Media. He worked in different capacities with WBTV News Channel before landing a position with the NBA Charlotte Hornets. Brian also freelanced for the NFL Charlotte Panthers and many other sports and charitable organizations. Considered an “artist” at his craft and knowledge of visual arts, Brian loved his work as a cameraman and editor. Brian was also very kind-hearted and loved to see the good in every person and every situation. A golf connoisseur, Brian was an avid golfer and participated in various amateur tournaments. He enjoyed teaching the sport and wanted to pave the way for many underprivileged kids. Brian loved to travel and no matter where he landed always touched someone with his kind heart. Like his grandfather Aaron, Brian never met a stranger and would “give you his last dollar.” One of the many things that’ll be remembered about Brian is his love for Banana Pudding - when he would come home to visit from college, his grandmother Sanders always had the pudding ready for him! Brian is preceded in death by his parents, but left to remember his life is his sister Erica Junious, her son Elijah, brother O’neil Junious, Aunt Linda Stokes (Glenn), cousin/acting mother Delores Moss-Hoover, Uncle Aaron Sanders, cousins Hafiz, Brion, Brandon Stokes and Darryl Moss. Also Brian’s extended family Julia Ezell-Thomas, Kathy Schmid, Anthony Gacona, Heather Mayo and surrogate mother Renee Pomales. Many thanks to the Charlotte Hornets’ Family, Alumni of Norfolk State University, Media Telecommunication friends and to all that visited Brian during his hospital stay. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to one of Brian’s favorite organizations – The First Tee of Charlotte.
