Master Sgt Alvin J. Scott

October 28, 1933 - March 23, 2022

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens A Time to Be Born: Alvin J. Scott was born on October 28, 1933, to the late Charlie Robert and Lelia Mae Fortune Scott. He was a member of Saint Mary's C.M.E. Church in Georgia. Later he moved to New York and joined Progressive Baptist Church. A Time to Die: Alvin gained his wings on March 23, 2022 at Atrium “Main” Hospital, in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Ben Scott, Sam Scott, Andrew Scott, and Henry Scott; and four sisters, Angeline Scott, Jannie Harshaw, Carrie Holland and Charlie Mae Jones. A Time to Plant: Alvin received his education in Royston, Georgia. Alvin enlisted into the United States Airforce upon completion of high school. After completing eight years in the Air force as an A1C, Alvin later joined the United States Army. Alvin completed his service, retiring as a Master Sergeant. He was married to Hannah B. Gauldin, and from this union two children were born a son Reginald R. Scott:, and a daughter Cassandra Scott. Alvin worked and retired has a conductor with the New York City Transit Authority. A Time to Uproot: Upon retiring Alvin laid roots in Baltimore, Maryland and joined Gillis Memorial Christian Community Church on October 28, 2002, where he gave his life to Christ and was baptize under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Theodor Jackson Jr. Alvin, affectionately known as” Sarge” to his church members, was an outstanding Chef, and worked in and managed the culinary department. He was a Greeter and he worked in the Security department. “Sarge” was also a Master Chef for all auxiliaries. He served in many departments in the church. He happily prepared meals for the Men’s outreach group monthly. “Sarge” was not only a Chef for his church, but he led the preparation for functions that required meals, becoming known as an outreach Master Chef. “Sarge” was loved by his neighbors, and always showed love to everyone by baking his famous sweet potato pies and a variety of cakes. A Time for Peace: Alvin made numerous friends wherever he went and he will be sincerely missed. He was a very kind and caring man who helped anyone in need. He leaves to cherish the memories of his life: a son Reginald R. Scott of Charlotte, North Carolina and a daughter Cassandra Scott of Leesburg, Georgia his loving companion Shirley Ann Thomas, Randallstown, Maryland; With this relationship he gained a bonus daughter Dreanina {Johnathan}Williams of Randallstown, Maryland; eight grandchildren Terrance McMurray, of Ruston, Louisiana; Curt Burgess, of Baltimore, Maryland, Nina {Marcus} Carter, of Columbia, Maryland; Chanse Scott, of Valley Stream, New York; Sherina Burgess of Columbia, Maryland; Matthew Serrette, of Valley Stream, New York; Johnae Williams, of Baltimore, Maryland; and Trinity Serrette, of Valley Steam, New York. Three great grandchildren, Marcus Carter Jr., Mari Carter and Curt Burgess Jr.; One brother, Elder David Scott San Antonio, Texas and one sister Edna” Susie” Curry, of Baltimore, Maryland; and one bonus brother and sister, Pete and Lillian Perry, of Owen Mills, Maryland, five sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends including neighbors and his close dear friends of Gillis Memorial Christian Community Church. Time has ended but cannot fade the memories Alvin Scott has made……….
