Wincy Laurie Scales

Wincy Laurie Scales was born on December 9, 1945. She was the 12th of 13 children born to the late Henry and Lizzie Scales of Wadesboro, North Carolina. In 1965, she left Wadesboro to join family in Charlotte, NC. Laurie answered her heavenly calling abruptly on January 7, 2025. Despite her health challenges, she remained passionate about life and was a beloved mother, grandmother, “Gi Gi,” sister and aunt. Laurie graduated from West Deep Creek High School in 1964. She later continued her studies at Central Piedmont Community College, earning an Associate’s Degree in Secretarial Sciences while raising two children. Laurie loved the Lord, and she was a faithful servant. She dedicated her life to the Lord at an early age at West Rocky Ford Baptist Church and attended Pleasant Hill Methodist Church when she was unable to attend her home church. She later became a devoted member of University Memorial Baptist Church, where she continued to serve the Lord and community. Known for her unwavering faith and deep love for her parents, Laurie made it a tradition to visit Wadesboro once a month to attend church with them. Laurie enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, shopping and self-care activities. Her favorite time of the year was Christmas and seeing the holiday lights. She was known for selling Avon and has a proud collection of “Mrs. Ablee” President’s Club award figurines. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth “Lizzie” and Henry Scales; five brothers, Thomas Scales, Jay Scales, Charles Scales, Vernon Scales and Richard Scales; five sisters, Rachel Forte, Elizabeth Sullivant, Marion Gaddy, Rosa Tyson and Willie Crowder. She will be deeply missed by family, friends, and her church community. She is survived by a daughter Wanda Scales, and two sons Winston Scales and Edward “Teddy” Scales. Seven grandchildren Gervard Weathers, Cherish Glenn, Jewel Glenn, Armani Glenn, Jacoby Berry, Braden Alverson, Journey Glenn, and one great-granddaughter Anorah Gregory. A brother, Robert Scales of Albemarle, NC; two sisters, Margaret Brown, and Rennett Blair, both of Charlotte, NC; Sisters-in-law, Sara Scales of Jamaica, NY and Arthelia “Ann” Hampton of Hillsborough, NC and a host of family and friends.
