Mr. Vernon Gerard Anderson

Vernon Gerard Anderson of Charlotte, North Carolina passed on Friday, April 5, 2013 at Carolina Medical Center-University. He was born on November 12, 1961 to the late Charles Vernon Anderson and Joyce Maxwell Anderson in Alexandria, Virginia. He was one of three children born into this union. At a young age, the family relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina; moving into the Cherry Community where he was known and affectionately called by many as “Tweet”. He attended Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where he enjoyed playing baseball in the church league. Tweet was educated in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System until he enlisted in the United states Army in 1980, where he served his country faithfully until his honorable discharge. Vernon was employed by Unique Show Place and Lighting for over twenty plus years, where he was eventually promoted into a management position. He was currently an employee of Pepsi Cola Bottling of Charlotte. Vernon met and married the love of his life Valencia Williams on February 18, 1996. He was a devoted husband for seventeen great years. It was a blessing to be married to a man that didn’t mind cooking a meal or sharing household chores. I’ll always remember simple things such as, never having to change a light bulb of setting a clock in over twenty plus years. It will be hard not to hear the old faithful little red truck pulling up from work late at night. From this union came his pride and joy, their son Aston Gerard Anderson. Words can not express the love he had for his one and only child. The bond they had from day one of birth was truly special in the beginning from changing diapers, feeding bottles and to wiping dirty noses. Thirteen years later, he is remembered by Aston for every basketball game, watched cartoons, cooking his favorite breakfast and Saturday trips to Grandma’s house. Also, being devoted enough to become PTA President, even when no other fathers came to meetings. He will be remembered by Aston for every kiss to the top of his head and hug of his shoulders and a “ I love you man” that he gave to him every single day. Aston will always remember his loving spirit and humorous personality. The perfect combination of being a father and a friend. These same qualities are what made him endearing to his nieces, nephews and friends. An open ear, encouraging words and most of all, his nurturing ways. Vernon was preceded in death by his father Charles Vernon Anderson and grandparents Georgia and Lemual Maxwell. He is survived his wife Valencia and son Aston Gerard, mother Joyce Maxwell Anderson; brother Meredith Warren Anderson (Cyd) and sister Kendra Joyce Anderson; sister-in-laws LaTavia Williams (Howard) and Shery Rorie (John); father-in-law Charles Williams (late Ruby Williams); nieces Brittany, Autumn, Tatyana, Shara, Shayla, Paris, Brandy, Lauren and Charia; nephews Ryan and Jamal; great niece Rylie and great nephews Nicholas, Samarrion and Brayden; uncle Earl Maxwell (Pecola); aunts Selena Funderburke, Barbara Chisholm, Doris Parks (Wesley), Marie Maxwell, Laverne Maxwell; special cousins Cal Gullat (Gus) and Wendy Grassman and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
