Shirley Patterson

Shirley Elaine Patterson was born on October 1, 1947, in Charlotte, NC, to the late Thomas Hunter, and the late Curlene Hunter. She was educated in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System. Shirley was a Daycare Teacher, an In-Home Nanny, and a Domestic Care Worker. She attended and was active in the New Waves of Joy Baptist Church. She attended the Senior Center on Tyvola Road and the Bette Rae Thomas Recreation Center, prior to her death. Shirley took part in various senior activities three days a week at the Bette Rae Center. Shirley was an excellent cook. Her famous Macaroni and Cheese was well-loved and preferred. She loved to do Cross Word Puzzle Books and play games of Spades. Shirley was a comical person without trying to be. She kept our family together with laughter. She enjoyed attending family gatherings, and spending time with friends. Shirley became the matriarch of the family several years ago when OUR mother passed. She was helpful to the younger siblings by providing wisdom, guidance, and support to our families. Shirley was a kind, loving, helpful, supportive, and giving person to her children, grandchildren, siblings, extended family, and friends. She had a considerate and compassionate heart. She served food to others at her residence, Edwin Towers on the 6 th floor. She even passed out Christmas gifts to some of the residents there every year. That is the type of person Shirley was. Always giving, serving, and being there for others despite their circumstances. Shirley is the definition of the type of love God speaks about in 1st Corinthians 13 that we should strive to have for each other. Preceded in Death Her parents Thomas Hunter, Curlene Hunter, Her siblings Hazeline Gaither. Dora Robinson, Janice Lyles, John Patterson, Thomas Hunter Jr., Charles Patterson, and Angela Hunter. Shirley is survived by her four sons John Curry Jr., Ernest Patterson, Harrell Patterson (Gina), and Herman Hunter. Her grandchildren Hailey Patterson, and Grant Patterson. Her siblings Patsy Auguste, Linda Baldwin, Brenda Mingo (Bobby), and Verlene Reel (Jerome), Sister In Law Carolyn Patterson and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. Two good friends Valerie Erwin, Jonelle Nich and A Special Thank You to Caregiver Cynthia.
