Ruthie Estella Scott

Ruthie Estella Scott (nee Holloman), 88, of Charlotte, NC, went home to be with the Lord on April 24, 2025, after a battle with Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer. Ruthie was born April 14, 1937, to James and Cynthia Holloman in Sylvester, GA. She was the 7th of 15 siblings. She graduated from Oak Hill High School in 1956 and soon relocated to New York. Ruthie attended York College where she studied Bookkeeping / Business Administration. Ruthie met her husband, Willie Scott Jr in 1959. Together they were blessed with three children: Cynthia, Vera, and Willie III. They also raised Laverne Roper, her niece, by marriage. In 1993, Ruthie retired from Plaza Stationery, Inc where she worked as a bookkeeper. While in New York, she was a member of the Supreme Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. In 1994, she moved to Wilmington, DE to care for her grandchildren, which was a blessing to her daughter, Cynthia. After a few years, Ruthie moved to St. Petersburg, FL where she completed Early Childhood Development courses and worked for 5 years for the YWCA Day Care. Ruthie moved to Charlotte in 2003 to be closer to family. Ruthie, affectionately known as Nana in Charlotte but Sister in New York, was very independent, enjoyed being with family and discussing politics. She was a member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. Ruthie was an active member of the West Charlotte Nutrition Program. She was also a member of the Ivory Baker Senior Rockers - District 8 Club. Nana had many talents. She worked as a seamstress and shared stories that she was the best dressed girl in her High School class courtesy of her own designs. She enjoyed shopping at Macy’s and TJ Maxx. She had a passion for handbags which always matched her shoes. Her favorite crafts included crocheting, gardening, and sewing. She loved puzzles. She had stacks of completed puzzles on her coffee table. Nana enjoyed traveling, especially by Amtrak. She enjoyed her cross-country trip despite a myriad of delays Ruthie is survived by her children: Cynthia Dumizo, Vera Parsons (Michael) and Willie III; her siblings Bertha Coley, Barbara Menigall and Edna Parker; grandchildren: Michael M Parsons, Marquita A Moore (Andrew), Marques V Parsons (Delesia), Morgan V Faucette (Lance), Margaret K Dumizo, Tohlei J Dumizo, and Na’ye J Dumizo; seven great grand-children and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Ruthie is reunited in rest with her parents, James and Cynthia Holloman, her former husband, Willie Scott Jr, and her siblings: Reuben Holloman, Dora Anderson, James Holloman Jr, Inez Jackson, Jessie Dee Holloman, BJ Holloman, Nettie Mae Adkins, Arthur James Holloman, Charlie Lee Holloman, Otis Holloman, and Jackie Ray Holloman.
