Rozella Victoria Shamberger

Rozella Victoria Shamberger, a beloved sister, aunt, mother figure, and friend, was born on February 20, 1958, in Charlotte, N.C., to the late Rufus and Mary Shamberger. On Sunday, March 9, 2025, she gained her wings and joined the church triumphantly. Rozella, affectionately known as Roz, had a spirit that lifted those around her and a heart that was always open to others. Her faith in God was unwavering, and she lived a life full of compassion, humor, and an infectious sense of joy. Roz graduated from West Charlotte High School in 1976. After graduation, she moved to Washington, D.C., eager to spread her wings and pursue new opportunities. Roz was very adventurous and never shy about taking on new challenges. After returning to Charlotte, she built a fulfilling career at Charlotte Memorial Hospital (later renamed Atrium Health), where she worked alongside her mother in Labor and Delivery. Roz’s dedication to her work was unwavering, serving for over 40 years and ending her career as the Quality and Assurance Coordinator for the Emergency Medicine Department. During her tenure at Atrium, Rozella made many lifelong relationships with a special tendency to turn friends into family. Roz’s passion for cooking and baking brought warmth to every room she entered. Whether preparing family meals or baking her famous treats, she delighted in bringing people together around the table. Her love for entertaining was matched only by her love for family and friends, and she cherished every moment spent in their company. She had a heart for movies, especially Westerns, and the thrill of a good scary film, often hosting movie nights with loved ones and creating lasting memories. A true country music fan, she found comfort in the melodies and stories that resonated deeply with her life. While she enjoyed the simple pleasures of music and movies, she always had a soft spot for Garrett Popcorn- a treat she shared with those she held dear. As her health began to decline, she continued to find joy in the little things that brought her happiness. She always loved applying her lipstick, never leaving the house without a touch of color. Her love for gold jewelry never wavered, and she was often seen with her favorite pieces adorning her. Fashion and skin were essential to her; she always took pride in looking and feeling her best. A special treat she couldn’t resist was a Caribbean Way smoothie from Smoothie King, and she was often found indulging in a slice of Publix cake. Above all, her generous heart was her most cherished quality, always giving to others warmth and kindness. Rozella Victoria Shamberger was preceded in death by her brother, Ernest Wentz, and sisters, Deborah Shamberger. She is survived by her son Michael Roddy, sisters Carol Shamberger White and Annette McDaniel; brother Rufus Shamberger Jr.(Mary); nieces Yolanda Mallory, Shanna Luckey, Erica White, Mia McDaniel, and Ebony Shamberger; nephew Rufus (RJ) Shamberger; great-nieces Carter Mallory and Julianna Luckey; great nephews Kendall Alford, Ephraim Evans and Kairo Evans; aunts Dorothy Gilliam(Leroy), Brite Jackson, Shirley Pratt (Reginald), Beulah Shamberger, Peggy Shamberger, and Marie Shamberger; uncles Brice Wentz (Richardean) and Ernest Eason; special godsons Brian E. Gibson and Marlowe Davis, with whom she had a motherly relationship; special cousins Cheryl Shamberger-Patterson, who lovingly called her “Sweet Thang”, Doris Curtina Gilliam, and Tywanna Culp; lifelong friends Cheryl Griffin-Miller, Colette Clark, Antoinette Williams, Dr. Vivek Tayal, and Dr. Jeffery Klein; and a host of family and friends.
