Robert "Ham" Jackson

Robert "Ham" Jackson, the son of the late Joseph Jackson and Betsie Evans-Jackson was born in Camden, South Carolina on May 6, 1940. He departed his life on May 30, 2026. Born and raised in Camden, South Carolina, Robert attended Jackson High School before eventually relocating to Charlotte, North Carolina. There, he built a life rooted in faith, family, friendship, and community, touching the lives of many along the way. After moving to Charlotte, North Carolina, Robert began a career with Yellow Freight Trucking Company, where he worked diligently for many years before retiring. He took great pride in providing for his family and was respected for his strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to those he loved. Never one to sit still, Robert continued working after retirement by operating his own pallet-hauling business. Through his determination, and commitment to providing for his family, he earned the respect of many throughout his life and career. One of Robert's most cherished traditions was collecting $2 bills, which he often gave away as gifts to family, friends, and even those he had just met. What may have seemed like a simple gesture to some became a lasting symbol of his generosity, thoughtfulness, and the joy he found in giving to others. Those who knew Robert will also remember one of his favorite sayings: "Get all you want! It ain't gon cost you a dime." Whether he was handing out one of his treasured $2 bills, sharing a story, or simply making someone smile, that phrase reflected his warm spirit, sense of humor, and generous heart. It was one of the many things that made Robert "Ham" Jackson unforgettable to all who knew and loved him. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Betsie Jackson; his beloved wife, Clara Jackson; his son, Darryl Jackson; his grandson, Damien Crandell; his sister, Lille Jackson, and his brothers, Rufus Jackson and Leroy Jackson. Left to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted daughter, Erica (Erica) Jackson; four grandchildren, Brandon Crandell of Virginia, and Jadah, Jannai, and Jameya Crandell, all of Charlotte, North Carolina; one great-granddaughter, Cali Crandell of Virginia; and a host of cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will forever treasure his memory.
