Robert Lee Camp

Robert Lee Camp, born in Charlotte, North Carolina. On June 20, 1974, to Robert Lee Lyles, and Gail Camp. He departed this life on May 9, 2026, at Atrium Health University Hospital. Rebert was educated in the Charlotte, Mecklenburg School System. Preceded in death, by his beloved grandparents Edward and Freida Camp. Robert grew up in Druid Hills alongside his cousin Monica, where the two were inseparable from an early age. They walked the halls of both Druid Hills and Albemarle Road elementary schools together, building a bond that extended well beyond the classroom. Whether they were tumbling through the yard, breaking into song and dance, competing on the court or field, or going head-to-head in whatever challenge came their way, Robert and Monica turned everyday moments into a friendly rivalry fueled by love. While attending West Charlotte High School, Robert played on WC Lions football team as a first-string defensive-end proudly wearing jersey number 33. They were undefeated which allowed them to move on to the State finals at UNC Chapel Hill. He loved the Carolina Tar-heels and the Carolina Panthers. Robert had a passion for music; it was his love language. Robert was a former member of a local acapella group Perfect Blend, consisting of a group of 5: Kenney Quiller, Dana Hobbs, Regi Dube’, Carey Reid, Preston Miles. Robert called them his brothers because they were always there for each other. In every competition they competed in they came in 1st place, qualifying them to compete in the Super Talent Showcase in Washington, DC in 1995, coming in first place in the male vocalist category. One of Robert’s favorites songs the group performed was “It’s So Hard to Say Good-bye,” by Boys II Men. Robert was a wonderful father to his son Taylor Camp (Valencia Aubas), whom he loved very much. His greatest joy was spending quality time with his son giving fatherly advice. One of Robert’s favorite past times was attending Taylors, athletic events. Robert and his little brother Joe Camp had a loving inseparable relationship where he too looked to him for brotherly advice. His stepfather, Joe Graham, played an influential role in teaching Robert to play sports. Joe loved Robert very much. Robert is survived by his mother Gail Camp (Joe), Father Robert Lee Lyles (Sheila), Brothers: Joe Graham-Camp (Anita), Breon Hagans, Montel Lyles, Justus Stachouse, Antoine Lyles, Sister Chava Francis. Robert leaves to cherish his loving memories, his aunts: Deborah Hudson (Willie), Joyce Fox (Bobby), Cheryl Pettigrew, Hattie Hair (Jimmy), Babara Phillips, Keith and Gina Hairston, and a host of nieces and nephews and cousins.
