Robert Gregory Ardrey

Robert Gregory Ardrey, affectionately known as (Egghead) was born on March 27, 1951, in Charlotte, NC to John Robert Ardrey and Thelma Hairston Ardrey and departed this life on May 20, 2024. Robert received his education in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School system and graduated from Harding High School in 1969 where he remained an active alumnus. Robert was an outstanding athlete, lettering in football and basketball. A huge personality, who never met a stranger, made everyone he met feel welcome. For certain the life of any party and made sure everyone was included in the fun! “Disco Rob” loved music and was well known throughout North and South Carolina for his “DJ” skills. A loyal friend and confidant to many, with his wealth of knowledge from being a jack of all trades. Although, one of his favorite sayings was “I don’t need to keep anything on my hard drive (brain), I have a wealth of friends and family to remember for me” that he would proclaim with that infectious smile. He was a great storyteller, known for his hard work, dedication and passion for helping others. He was always offering guidance, support and encouragement, no matter the challenge. Robert was an entrepreneur who wore many hats. He loved boating, cooking for family and friends, entertaining and never turned down a tee time (well almost never). He was always eager to share his knowledge and enthusiasm with others, at times to their dismay. He was an active member of his community, cheerfully volunteering for various causes and organizations, a longtime member of Los Bravos, “The Duffers” and “S.T.E.M.” golf clubs. In 2021, one of his biggest dreams actualized when he acquired “My Dream”. He loved spending time on the lake and you better believe he put his memorable stamp at the Peninsula Yacht Club as well. He was joined in holy matrimony to Deborah McDowell. They were blessed with two children, Lacrisha and Gregory. He considered his greatest accomplishment being called “granddaddy” by his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Deborah M. Ardrey, father: John Robert Ardrey, mother: Thelma Hairston Ardrey, sister: Mary Ruth Able. Robert Ardrey was a good man, rich in love and beautiful relationships. He leaves to cherish his memories: daughter: Lacrisha Ardrey-Huston, son: Gregory Ardrey, life partner: Agnes Alexander, grandchildren: Jaton Chambers, Debria Polk, Jalen Hudson, Jordan Hudson, Gregory D. Ardrey, Lily Bethea, Gabrielle Ardrey, sisters: Carolyn Moore, Gwendolyn Thompson (Alfred), Peggy Ardrey-Harris (William), Gaye Springs, Norma Deas (Gregory) and brother: George Ardrey and a host a nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
