Reginald Houston Ackridge

Reginald was the youngest of twelve children, and was born on August 3, 1949 to Willie and Mozell Ackridge in Philadelphia, PA. After the death of his parents, he was raised by his oldest siblings that instilled family values that included love unconditionally. He was educated in the Philadelphia Public School System. Reggie worked as a laborer in Philly until he moved to Charlotte, North Carolina in 1987. After working in a lumber yard for several years, he found his true passion in painting businesses and homes. However, in his earlier years, he worked with the 12th and Oxford Corp in the 1970s film production “The Jungle” that was shown across the nation many times. Reggie participated in many community activities, including opening the neighborhood laundromat. Reggie, affectionately known as “Rap Brown” , was admired for his fashionable tailored clothes that set the bar for his squad. He loved being a trendsetter in everything he did. If he did anything, he did it the best way that it could be done. Reggie was a Loving, proud, kind, understanding and forgiving person. He loved to spend time with family and eat together. His favorite meals would include oxtails and any kind of beans. Even though he loved us all, we all knew the beans he ate didn’t as much. Just gave him one other thing to laugh at. Reggie also loved sports that included boxing following his brother Albert, who was a legend in his own right, the 76ers but most passionately his beloved Philadelphia Eagles. His heart was big enough to accommodate each and every one of us… Unless you're rooting against the Eagles. Reggie was a wonderful and loving husband, brother, father, grandfather and blessed to be a great grandfather. Although the family is mourning, we rejoice in his purposeful life and legacy. He leaves behind his wife; Sherry Ackridge, brother; Donald (Sharon), his children; Renee, Reggie (Keisha), Shaheerah, Tyson, Izeem, Fatima (Raheem Collins), and son Curtis who preceded him in death. His grandchildren; Meesha, Kareem (proceeding him in death), Tynae, Rashun, Kiana, Shadira, Makayla, Javarri, Iyonna, Alaysia, Tykimah, Tylee, Emonie, Kazem and a score of great grands, nieces and nephews. His siblings that he will be joining in eternity are Albert, William ( Junie), Curtis, Charles,Tyrone, Teddy (Brother/Nephew), Claudine, Ruth (Beanie), Delores (Plookie) and Harriet.
