Perrie "Jackie" Perry-Wallace

Perrie Perry-Wallace, lovingly known as “Jackie”, was born April 24,1943 in Charlotte, North Carolina to the late Clarence Raymond Perry and Susie Mae Holmes. She departed this life on March 9, 2026. Jackie was raised in the historic Brooklyn community in downtown Charlotte. As a child, she was considered an old soul, with a demeanor beyond her years. From an early age, she had “grown-up” tendencies and a flair for style and fashion, and on many occasions you would find her on the front porch of her home styling hair for young girls her age from the neighborhood. She also had loving motherly characteristics, playing an important role as a teenager in caring for her younger siblings and cousins. Jackie was educated in the Mecklenburg County school system where she graduated from Second Ward High School in 1961. While there, she was active as a cheerleader, drum majorette and a member of the high school choir. Jackie spoke glowingly of her time at Second Ward and she cherished those memories and the friendships with many of her classmates until her passing. After graduating from high school, Jackie was employed in various positions with several companies across the Charlotte area. However, no role was more important or gratifying to her than her role as a mom. Along with her high school sweetheart and future husband George “Porgie” Wallace, they started a family of their own shortly thereafter, and she gave birth to their first born, Jeffrey. Jackie loved being a mom and spent a lot of her time as a young adult helping her mom and aunts raise her younger siblings and cousins. In 1972, Jackie started her career in the insurance business with Aetna Life & Casualty. She went on to work there for nearly 20 years, eventually working as senior insurance claims clerk, before opting for early retirement from Aetna in 1992. Early retirement was the beginning of the second chapter of Jackie’s professional career and afforded her the opportunity to pursue her passion for styling hair. She returned to school to receive training by attending Dudley Cosmetology University, earning a degree in cosmetology. Not long afterwards, she went on to open her own hair salon, “Perrie’s Hair’s The Limit”, which she operated for over 20 years. As a hair stylist, Jackie served dozens of devoted clients who became her dear friends. Some of her clients, who began coming to her when they were young girls, continued with her well after becoming mothers themselves. Most them eventually entrusted Jackie to take care of their own children’s hair styling needs. At Hair’s The Limit, the atomsphere was truly a family affair. Just as she did when she was was a little girl, Jackie took pride in her passion and it showed through the dedication and loyalty of her clients. Jackie cherished her close-knit family where cousins seemed more like siblings and friends felt like family. She was the eldest child and grew to become the guiding voice and matriarch to all in her immediate and the extended Holmes families. She was the “adopted mom and mother figure” to so many people that she met and befriended over the years. She loved bringing the family together and especially enjoyed celebrating holidays, family birthdays and annual vacations at the beach. Her presence brought warmth and meaning to those around her and her passing has left a void that will be difficult to fill. She will be missed. As a young child and until her passing, Jackie was a dedicated member of East Stonewall A.M.E. Zion Church and an active participant within the Stonewall family. Jackie was preceded in death by her husband, George “Porgie” Wallace; her parents Clarence Perry and Susie Mae Holmes; her daughter in law, Tracy Perry; and, her Sister, Vicki Morman. Jackie leaves to cherish her memory her sons, Jeffrey Perry of Charlotte and Darrell Perry (Sabrina) of Kannapolis, NC; Brother, Rickey Holmes of Charlotte; Sisters, Sandra Holmes and Elise Holmes of Charlotte and Tammy Morman-Tunstall (Deiter) of Sewell, New Jersey; Grandsons, Michael Moore of Charlotte and Jalen Perry of Kannapolis; Granddaughter, Kyndal Perry of Bethesda, MD; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
