Luzetta Hamilton Baker

Ms. Luzetta Hamilton Baker, also called “Mother” by most, except her last two children who called her “Ma” or “Mama”, 95 years of God’s Blessings, was called home to be with our Father at her residence in Charlotte, North Carolina on Sunday, February 2, 2025. Ms Luzetta was born July 25, 1929, in Chesterfield, South Carolina to the late Thomas Hamilton and Ada Sellers of Pageland, South Carolina. Ms. Baker worked in housekeeping for Holiday Inn where she received several accolades for at least 15 years and retired in 2010. She also worked at MacDonald’s Cafeteria in food services. At a younger age, she performed domestic work in several places. She loved the Lord, serving faithfully on the senior choir for many years, last attending Mount Zion Missionary Baptist until her health started to fail her and she could not get around as well. She was independent. She was the Matriarch (A mother who is head and ruler of her family) of her family. She out-lived everyone in her entire family. Ms. Baker was such a sweet and very gentle person. And to know her was to love her. She kept a really clean house in her good days. Her kids had to do the same. All of the neighbors when we were younger loved Mother. She was funny and quick and smart. She always had a quick come back and something smart to say to you. She loved Bruno Mars and his music. She was a beautiful person inside and out. She loved her family. Ms. Baker is preceded in death by her oldest child, Lucresia B. Cunningham and her oldest son, Richard W. Baker. Also, ten (10) of her fourteen (14) siblings, Doreatha Wade, Ann Baker, Minnie Jean Morrow, Elizabeth (Lib) Mason, Susie Rickett, James Hamilton, Thomas (Pete) Hamilton, Venice (VL) Hamilton, Sylvester (Syl) Hamilton and Howard Chambers. Also, four great grand-sons, Antonio Baker, JaQuarious (JQ) Baker, Dashawn Baker and Kenneyon M. Baker. She leaves to cherish precious memories, a special friend, James (JJ) Johnson, seven children, Larry J. Baker, Jerome (Alvin) Baker, and Harry J. Baker (Sue) of Charlotte, North Carolina, Leon Baker, Sr. (Barbara) of Reidsville, North Carolina, Yvonne Baker Chesson of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Peggy Baker Given (Michael) and Colethia Baker Anderson (Gary) of Charlotte, North Carolina. Four siblings, Ethel Blackmon, Mary Alston, Jerry Hamilton (Alice) and Linda Bowman (Ellison) all of Charlotte, North Carolina. She had 33 +/- grand-children, 86+/- great-grand-children and 12 +/- great-great grand-children, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends. They will all also miss her dearly.
