John Elmer Sims

John Elmer Sims was born on August 10, 1938 to the late Coleman Sims and Gladys Hampton. John departed this early life on October 12, 2024 at Novant Health in Charlotte, North Carolina. John graduated from Logan High School in Concord, North Carolina and from there he joined the United States Army. He was in the 82nd Airborne Infantry and Artillery division specializing in Parachute Assault Operations in to hostile areas with a US Department of Defense Mandate to be on call to duty of Ft Bragg, North Carolina which he served a tour in the Vietnam War and completed many assignments with an honorable discharge. John worked with Hunter Construction Group, Inc. from where he retired hauling heavy equipment and oversize loads to various construction sites where he also did the grading. John knew how to read blueprints when it comes to surveying, stake and marking crucial areas in fields that needed to be fill slope or cut when building new developments such as apartment buildings and commercial warehouses. John loved spending time to himself doing things around the choice cutting his grass working on his cares repairing his riding lawn mower weed eaters. He also loved to sit on his front porch smoking his cigar while riding reading the newspaper or going through his mail and speaking to neighbors who knew him. He also loved spending time with his kids especially around the holidays, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's, appreciating every moment, hour, second and time these special occasions that he really enjoyed. John was the King James Masonic Lodge #190 for many years where he served as the treasure book keeper and speaker. John was preceded in death by his father: Coleman Sims, his mother, Gladys Hampton, two sisters; Alice Waddell and Blanche Beasley. John leaves to cherish in loving memory his children: Sharon A. Freeman, Angela Burton, John E. Sims, Jr (Barbara), Johnny Darnell Holly (Robin), Pam R. Sims, Camilla Draffin , Jeff Siby (Penny) of Fayetteville, NC, Shanara Sims, Aggie Sims and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews , family and friends.
