Jerome Lambert Sanders Sr.

Jerome Lambert Sanders, Sr. was born on March 10, 1962. He was the son of loving parents Freddie & Christine Sanders. Jerome received his formal education in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System, where he graduated from East Mecklenburg High School. He then pursued higher education at Winston Salem State University. Following school Jerome joined his dad, Freddie Sanders as a Locker Room Attendant at Quail Hollow Country Club. It was there he established a bond with Rick Hendrick and later became employed by the Hendrick Auto Group as a personal assistant for Mr. & Mrs. Hendrick. This would turn out to be much more than a work relationship as he was revered as a part of the Hendrick Family. As a youth he enjoyed playing football and basketball. Although not large in stature, Jerome was known as a great athlete. On the basketball court he displayed superb leaping ability, crafty passing and long-range shooting. He was versatile as a football player but was remembered most for his ability to lay a heavy lick. This hard-hitting attribute earned him the nick name TUFF! If you knew anything about Jerome, you had to know that he was a DIE-HARD Cowboys fan. Just one walk through his home and you would think that you were inside the Dallas Cowboys National Museum. Everyone knew not to call him on Sundays when Dallas was playing; not unless you wanted to hear the infamous voicemail stating, “Due to the importance of the Dallas Cowboys football game, I will not be able to take your call!” Jerome also had a few hobbies which included landscaping (flowers & plants), aquarist (fish tanks), jigsaw puzzles, video games, watching Andy Griffin and most of all golfing. Golfing was Jerome’s getaway. When he could not be found, there was no question that he was somewhere on a golf course. There was always competitive banter amongst his golf buddies about how bad he beat, how much money he won or how long his win streak versus them had lasted. Jerome L. Sanders Sr. passed away on the morning of February 19, 2023, due to cardiovascular complications. He was preceded in death by father, Freddie L. Sanders Sr. He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother Christine Sanders, brothers, Reginald Sanders (Peggy), Malcolm Sanders (Renee), Freddie Sanders Jr. (Tanya), sisters Karen Sanders and Katrina “Denise” Burris, daughters Ebony Taylor, Dinika Johnson, Briana Sanders, son, Jerome Sanders Jr., grandchildren: Nevaeh & Darnell, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
