Jada Alisha Cousins

Jada Alisha Cousins was born on March 20, 2006 in the Bronx, New York to Victoria Mckenley and Rasahn Cousins. Jada took us all by storm when she learned how to read at the tender age of two, through a program called My Baby Can Read that her Aunty Natasha, a teacher, insisted she join. From that moment on, Jada hit the ground running and always took her academic progress very serious. Jada was a great student who throughout the years would remain on the honor roll. She began her education at Rosa Parks Campus Elementary School (P.S. 189, Bronx, NY) and later attended West Side Collaborative Middle School (M.S. 250, Manhattan, NY) for one year. During this time in her young life Jada, the only child of Victoria, was certain she would become an obstetrician; but we all know how fickle the heart can be at such an early age. As she blossomed into a beautiful young lady her thoughts about her career path changed and changed and then changed again. If Jada is reading this, we know she is saying “Not too much on me”. In the fall of 2018, Mother and daughter left the Big Apple and headed to Washington D.C. During the 3 years spent in our nation’s capital, Jada attended Charles Hart Middle School. It was during this time, that Jada would start to explore different activities. In her quest, “to see what best suited her”, she tried out for the cheerleading squad and ran track and field as a long-distance runner. Ultimately, she graduated with honors despite having to finish the last year and a half virtually (due to the pandemic). In the summer of 2021, Victoria and Jada relocated again, this time to Charlotte, NC. Now a teenager, she began attending South Mecklenburg H.S. and it was here that Jay finally made some concrete decisions about her future. For starters, she decided her career path and college major were going to be computer science; she chose the field because it celebrated her mutual love of math and technology. As an extracurricular activity, she became involved in the Black Student Union. Throughout high school, she held several jobs most recently at Krispy Kreme. Like most high school seniors, applying to college was the next step. After receiving multiple college acceptance offers, Jada was pretty certain that Morgan State University would be her college of choice, but it's believed that East Carolina University still had a fighting chance. Outside of her academic achievement and endeavors, Jada loved to spend time with her family. When she wasn't completing schoolwork, you could find her playing Fortnite or Roblox with her cousins. She also enjoyed fashion, especially her sneakers. You couldn't tell Jada anything when it came to her “shoe game”! If you wanted to treat Jada to anything, seafood was her food of choice, in particular shrimp, lobster tails, and crab legs. Clearly, she was not a cheap date! As we wonderfully walk down memory lane, I can hear her speak right now which means, she would have dropped her favorite line on us “ Not too much on Me”! Jada our trail blazing, delicate flower will be sorely missed. She is survived by her Mother, Victoria Mckenley; Father, Rasahn Cousins; Grandmother, Veronica Cousins; Godmother, Cassandra Garvins; Godsister, Symond Garvins; Two sisters, Racquel (Star) and Rasahna (Rere); Three Brothers.
