George Gabriel

Mr. George Gabriel, 76, formerly residing at 940 North Brevard St., Charlotte, NC, transitioned to Glory on Monday, February 17, 2025, at Novant Hospital. Born on September 11, 1948, in Charlotte, North Carolina, he was the eldest son of the late Geraldine Gabriel Jackson. He was affectionately known as “Gabe”. Gabe was a life-long member of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Huntersville, North Carolina. Gabe graduated from Torrence-Lytle High School in 1966, where he also played basketball. In 1969, Gabe married Patricia Austin, and together they had three children. Gabe was employed by the City of Charlotte as a General Laborer. Gabe re-committed his life to Christ and was re-baptized on September 9, 2018, at Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church. He had been a member of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church for over 70 years. He loved the church and attending services. Gabe was diagnosed with stage four cancer, September 23, 2024. He fought a good fight until the end of life. Gabe loved his family. He enjoyed family events and took so much joy in talking about his upbringing. He loved playing baseball and basketball, but he liked all sports. His favorite sports teams were, Pittsburgh Steelers, Carolina Panthers, and The Charlotte Hornets. He LOVED playing Bid Whist!! Gabe was preceded in death not only by his mother, but also by his father, George W. Henderson Sr.; stepfather, George Washington Jackson; grandfather Garland Gabriel; grandmother, Bessie Pharr Gabriel; granddaughter, Chelsea Symone Moore; and brothers, Richard Jackson, Larry Jackson, and Severn Jackson. He leaves to cherish his loving memories: two sons, Nathan Austin of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Armard Moore of Mooresville, North Carolina; three daughters, Felise Gabriel and Marlo Gabriel of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Shaniekia Moore of Huntersville, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Kelsey Johnson of Maryland, Alexis Galmon of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Olivia Moore of Mooresville North Carolina; two brothers, Steven Jackson of Tempe, Florida, and Dr. George W. Henderson of Charlotte, North Carolina; a loving friend and companion, Linda Withers; his cousins, who were raised as siblings: Loretta Wilson (Raymond), Wilhelmena McClinton, Bessie Mills (Donald), Luvadah Barrino (Jonah), Mynnie Pryor (Chauncie), Marian Henderson, Elnora Henderson, Earnest Gabriel, James M. Henderson, Alvin O. Henderson, John W. Henderson, and DeFoster Henderson; a special cousin, Hearsey Lassiter; his best friend, James Campbell; his buddies, Bobby Sloan and Earnest Pharr; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins
