Eugene Earl Wilburn

Eugene Earl Wilburn, Jr., the beloved and only son of the late Eugene Earl Wilburn Sr. and Helen Delores Wilburn, was born on Tuesday, March 19, 1968, in Charlotte, North Carolina. A lifelong resident of Charlotte, Earl departed this life on Wednesday July 1 2026, and was reunited with his beloved parents in eternal rest. Affectionately known as "Earl," he was given his father's name with great pride, and his parents lovingly raised him to embody the character, values, and integrity of the man for whom he was named. Earl shared an extraordinary bond with his father that remained steadfast throughout every season of their lives. They spoke daily, and as his father's health declined, Earl faithfully devoted his time, love, and unwavering care to him. Following his father's passing, Earl often said that his father had been his best friend—a testament to the deep and enduring relationship they shared. Earl shared an exceptionally close bond with his mother, whom he loved with all his heart. He cared for her with unwavering devotion and compassion until her unexpected passing, a reflection of the selfless love and dedication that defined his character. Earl received his early education in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System and was a proud graduate of West Charlotte Senior High School, the Class of 1986. Following graduation, he continued his education at Winston-Salem State University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. At the time of his death, Earl was employed in Charlotte by Mauser Packaging Solution, global manufacturers of bulk containers for the food, beverage, and chemical industries. Earl's gentle spirit and mild-mannered nature made him easy to love and a joy to be around. His kindness, warmth, and genuine concern for others drew family and friends to him, and he formed lasting relationships with everyone fortunate enough to know him. Blessed with an exceptional memory, Earl could effortlessly recall details of sporting events, political happenings, and historical moments from decades past. He especially enjoyed sharing those memories in conversation with family and friends. A devoted sports enthusiast, Earl rarely missed the opportunity to cheer on his beloved North Carolina Tar Heels basketball team and his lifelong favorite, the Los Angeles Raiders football team. Family was at the heart of Earl's life. Though he was his parents' only son, he never lacked the love and companionship of family. He shared a lifelong, brotherly bond with his cousins, Mark Wilburn, Darrell Perry, and the late Ronnie Wilburn who were much more than cousins—they were brothers in every sense that mattered. He leaves to mourn his sister, Angela Wilburn of Charlotte; Uncles, Frank Holmes and Derrick Holmes of Charlotte; Nieces, Jamaya Marshall and Jada Jackson of Charlotte; Great nephew, Jayden Marshall of Charlotte and a host of loving close-knit cousins and friends.
