Dorothy Lee Huntley

Dorothy Lee Huntley, 85, was born on September 27, 1940, in Charlotte, North Carolina, and peacefully entered eternal rest on March 4, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, cousin, aunt, and friend. Her kindness, love, and warmth touched everyone she knew. She was the devoted daughter of the late Lucille Milton and James Miller. Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Glenzell Walter Huntley, affectionately known as “Stick,” and her dear son, Walter “Bay” A. Huntley. She received her education through the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System. Dorothy dedicated many years of her life working in various industries and retired from Lance Incorporated in 2011 after several decades of faithful service. Dorothy was a woman of extraordinary kindness and generosity. Her giving spirit and loving nature made her a pillar of her family and community. She loved traveling with her family to the beach, relaxing on the balcony watching the waves, crocheting, and crafting. She also enjoyed attending plays and seeing live shows, cherishing moments of entertainment and cultural appreciation. She had a generous heart and loved gifting others, always ensuring the children in her family felt celebrated. She planned special gatherings and parties, often leaving them with a gift, reminding them of the importance of family. Many knew her as the one with a sweet tooth, often curled up watching her favorite movies and shows. A devoted member of Rockwell A.M.E. Zion Church, Dorothy’s faith was the foundation of her life. She served on the Spiritual Choir, was a dedicated pastor’s aide, and actively participated in the Missionary Society exemplifying her deep love for her church family and unwavering faith. Dorothy leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory: her first cousin who was more like a sister, Elaine McCaskill; sister, Sarah Milton; brother, Robert “Bob” Milton; brother-in-law, Rev. Melvin Huntley Sr. (Rev. Angela); and cousin, whom she adored as a brother, Sonny Holloway (Thomasina). Her legacy continues through her children, two sons, Larry Huntley (Deborah) and Victor Huntley; two daughters, Denine Barksdale (Karl) and Shona Huntley. She also leaves nine grandchildren; Laketia, LaShona, Camille, Jordan, Brandon, Bianca, Karl II, Kennedy, and Isiah; eight great-grandchildren, Unique, Terrell, Raign, Kiersten, Nealaray, Brandon Jr., Zaylee, and Cydne. Dorothy was a loving aunt to a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. While Dorothy’s warmth and love will be deeply missed, her lasting influence and the memories she created will continue to inspire everyone who knew her. Though she has departed from this life, her spirit lives on in the hearts of those she touched.
