Don Jamae Gibson

Don Jamae Gibson of Charlotte, NC, departed this life unexpectedly on March 17, 2024. Don’s 44 years of life would seem too short to many but those who were touched by him understand that the quality of one’s life far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. His fierce loyalty, strength of character and love for food and fashion brought so much joy to his family and friends. Although he battled with sickle cell disease, he never let it damper his spirit or his passion for helping others. Until his untimely death, Don was the director of his non-profit organization, Sickle Cell Action Network, Inc., which existed to meet the needs of those impacted by sickle cell disease. Don excelled academically, graduating with honors from Harding High School, Charlotte, NC, in 1997 and with a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Business Administration and Marketing from Winston Salem State University in 2001. While at WSSU, Don was a natural leader and organizer. His talent and fashion sense were on full display as a member of the WSSU Mozik modeling troupe. Don was a foodie and enjoyed tinkering in the kitchen; he would often call for recipe details or to compare his culinary skills. He was determined to learn how to make lasagna and his favorite cookie, pecan sandies. From a very young age, Don deeply loved and was devoted to his family and friends. He made room for you in his home and in his heart. He ensured that his mom, Gloria, grandmother, Luetta, and his sister, Lia, knew that they were the wind beneath his wings. Of his many accomplishments and accolades, being a beloved son, grandson, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend was his greatest. His contagious laughter and infectious smile will be sorely missed. Gibson, III, Marques Green, Joshua Gibson, Joseph Green, Alexandria Lee, Ashley Lee, Elijah Clark, IV, John Gibson, Jewel Gibson, Sariah Gibson, Harper Lee and Luna Gibson; his devoted pet, Levi, and his close circle of friends and beloved WSSU Rams family.
