Daniel Lewis Hunter

Daniel Lewis Hunter, affectionately known as “Dan,” was born on December 25, 1943, and passed away peacefully on March 29, 2026, at Northeast Medical Center in Concord, North Carolina. Dan was a proud graduate of Reid High School in Belmont, North Carolina, class of 1962. During his school years, he was active in football, participated in the Glee Club, and even drove school buses—early signs of his strong work ethic and lively spirit. In 1979, Dan and his family relocated to Charlotte, where he built a life centered on hard work, faith, and family. Dan dedicated 30 years of service to Duke Power, retiring in 2003 as a control room operator. In addition to his career, he was an entrepreneur and owner of Hunter’s Janitorial Service. His commitment to providing for his family and serving others was evident in all that he did. He was raised at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Belmont, North Carolina, before later embracing the Muslim faith, reflecting a deeply personal spiritual journey. Dan truly lived life to the fullest. He found joy in fishing, golfing, traveling, and most importantly, spending time with family and friends. He cherished his monthly breakfasts with his classmates—fondly known as “the breakfast gang”—and looked forward each year to father-son fishing trips with Chuck and beach vacations with family. He never missed an opportunity to share stories, especially those recounting his victories over Chuck and Glenn on the golf course. A devoted grandfather, Dan was actively involved in the lives of his four grandchildren—picking them up from school or work, babysitting, and attending their events. He was a beloved figure to all who knew him, remembered for his humor, honesty, and willingness to lend a helping hand. His presence brought laughter, wisdom, and warmth to every room. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Eugene Hunter and Clara Surratt Hunter; his brothers, Douglas Hunter and Samuel Hunter; and his sister, Mary Glenda Hunter Horsey. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 60 years, Margaret Elizabeth Hunter; his children, Marcia (Glenn) Phillips, Daniel Hunter, and Charles (Malika) Hunter; his siblings, Linda Sue Clark and John Hunter; his sister-in-law, Arletta Clark Hunter; and his four grandchildren, Ciara Hunter, Charles Hunter II, Joshua Crudup, and Maliyah Hunter. He is also survived by one great-grandchild, Kohen Xavier Jackson, all of Charlotte, North Carolina. He is further survived by his aunt, Joann Hunter of Detroit, Michigan; a special cousin, Donnieve Edmond; his niece, Crystal Hunter; two dear friends, Fred Glenn and Alfred Moss; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Dan’s legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering support for those around him will be cherished forever.
