Charles Eugene Hicks

If you are reading this, it must be time for my Final Rodeo! Charles Eugene Hicks was born to the late James E Hicks Sr. and Chanie Belle Simmons on February 27, 1952. He peacefully departed this life to be with his wife and daughter July 30, 2024. Charles was born and raised in Bennettsville, SC. He attended Marlboro County school system where he met and married his soulmate and best friend Vera Bruce on September 2, 1972. Together they relocated to Philadelphia, PA where they extended and raised their daughters in North Philly. There he started his own mechanic business and quickly became known as M.C (Mr. Charles) around north Philly as one of the best mechanics. Charles' life was always about family. He would do anything for his girls and grandchildren to make sure they were safe, happy, and never wanted for anything. Even if it meant working all night long outside in the cold which is why his grands would call him a vampire since he slept most of the day and worked all night. Charles was always known for his hard work, smart remarks, blunt personality, fusing about food, childhood stories even if they were not always true, causing laughter with family and friends when we were all together, but most importantly loving his family no matter how far away everyone may have been. Charles was definitely a G.O.A.T (greatest of all time) for being a father and grandfather that anyone could have ever wished for. He was preceded in death by his Mother, Father, Wife Vera, daughter Jean, and 3 brothers Jeffery, Stevenson, and Derrick. He lives to cherish his memories with his daughters Nya(Ray), Anike, Ebony(Maris), Donyell(Anthony), and special daughters Danielle(Rodney) and Josephine, two sisters Zennear (Smitty), Chandra, three brothers James, Calvin, and Joseph. three sister in laws, three brother in laws, sixteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Our hearts are heavy because we wanted you to stay, but we realized you were at peace and reunited with those you lost, so how could we wish you to stay. It broke our hearts to lose you but you did not go alone, for part of us went with you the day God called you home. Sadly Submitted, The Family
