Benjamin Galloway

Benjamin Franklin Galloway June 18. 1947 - June 19, 2025. 78 years old. Born in Spartanburg, SC to the late Pleas Slyvania Galloway and Lorraine Keenan Galloway, Mr. Galloway was a beloved son, brother, father, grandfather and friend. He attended grade school through high school in Spartanburg. He loved sports and played football. After a brief move to Charlotte, NC he transferred to West Charlotte High School for one semester. Being the loyal friend that he was, he missed his friends and teammates back home so much that he returned to Spartanburg and went on to graduate from Carver High School in 1966. After high school he moved back to Charlotte before enlisting in the United States Air Force as a Security Police Officer. He bravely served in the Vietnam War. He met the love of his life in 1970 and their beautiful marriage commenced on February 20, 1971. Mr. Galloway decided to further his education at the historic Johnson C. Smith University. As a proud “Golden Bull,” he graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in 1974. After college Ben was employed by Duke Power for 9 years. He then began his tenure as a proud employee of the U.S. Post Office for 30 years until his retirement in 2011. Many people would bypass closer offices just to go to his, as they knew they would always be greeted with a bright smile and receive service of the highest level. In his free time Ben was able to act upon his love for sports through coaching his son in little league baseball and football for the Plaza Wildcats. He was an enthusiastic and loyal fan of his favorite teams, the Carolina Panthers and the North Carolina Tar Heels. He was no bandwagoner, win or lose he always remained a faithful fan. Ben was a dutiful member of Friendship Missionary Baptist church for over 25 years. Throughout these years he proudly served the church in various capacities. He was a perfect member of the Greeters Ministry as he was well suited with such a welcoming spirit. His embodiment of a servant’s heart led him to be a Volunteer Sunday School Class Member and devout attendee and participant of the Prayer Breakfast every 3rd Saturday. On top of that, he exercised his voice as a member of the Hymn Choir. Additionally, he was a proud member of the Hymn Choir. Additionally, he was a proud member of the VFW Post 7775. As a loving and devoted grandfather, Ben supported his 4 grandchildren in everything they did, especially sports and cheer. He often travelled up and down the east coast for AAU tournaments with his grandchildren to support and encourage them and their teammates. He leaves behind his Loving wife of 54 years, Grace J. Galloway, 3 children, Anthony T. Galloway, Jermaine D. Galloway. Katrina G. Coles a special Son-In-Law Anthony Coles, 1 brother, James Galloway(Sabrina) of VA, 4 grandchildren Kendall A. Coles, Cameron D. Galloway, Maxwell Q. Coles and Rileigh M. Coles, 2 nieces Marquita R. Galloway of Maryland and Charale L. Galloway of Virginia, 1 great nephew Maverick Kelly of Maryland, 2 Sisters In-Law Johnnie Willis and Hattie Patterson of New Jersey, a special cousin Samuel Galloway, God Daughter Patricia Wilson, God Sister Yvette Wood (Lane) and and a host of relatives and friends.
