Barbara Joyce Harris

Barbara Joyce Harris, 79, went home to be with the Lord on June 16, 2026. She passed peacefully, surrounded by the love and presence of her family. Barbara was born on January 22, 1947, in Miami, Florida, to Roy Smith and Bernice Frazier (Smith). As the eldest of four daughters, she embraced a nurturing role early in life, helping to care for her younger sisters—Evelyn, Betty, and Vetrina. In 1958, the family relocated to New York, a move that would shape the course of her future. While working at the post office, Barbara met the love of her life, Bobby Harris. They were united in marriage on August 24, 1968, beginning a devoted partnership that endured for decades. Barbara and Bobby were blessed with three children: Dr. Bashawn Harris, Brandon Harris, and Brittany Harris, NP. A devoted wife and mother, Barbara created a home filled with warmth, faith, and unwavering love. Her family was her greatest joy, and she poured her heart into nurturing and supporting them. In 1972, Barbara and her young family returned to Miami, where she began her career with the federal government at the Social Security Administration. She served with dedication and compassion, taking pride in helping others navigate important milestones in their lives. In 1981, the family settled in Matthews, North Carolina, where Barbara continued to build a life centered around family, faith, and community. Barbara cherished every opportunity to connect with those she loved—whether through gatherings, long conversations, or holiday traditions. Christmas was her favorite season; she delighted in decorating, giving gifts, and creating magical memories for her children and grandchildren. Her passions included shopping and genealogy, both of which she pursued with enthusiasm. She spent countless hours researching her family’s history, ultimately compiling a treasured ancestry book that preserves the stories, names, and sacrifices of generations past. Her work ensures that her family’s legacy will endure for years to come. Barbara was preceded in death by her mother, Bernice Frazier; her father, Roy Smith; her stepfather James Frazier and her beloved husband, Bobby Harris. She leaves to cherish her memory her sons, Dr. Bashawn Harris (Patrice) of Mint Hill, North Carolina, and Brandon Harris (Stacey) of Stallings, North Carolina; her daughter, Brittany Harris, NP (Douglas) of Asheville, North Carolina; and her beloved sisters, Evelyn Mann (Wade) of Long Island, New York, Betty Harris (Isaac) of Kinston, North Carolina, and Vetrina Armstrong Aristy (Angel), of Miami, Florida. Barbara was the proud grandmother of Christopher Harris, Sidney Harris, Jordan Harris, and Maya Harris, and the loving Godmother of Isaac Harris and Rubin Hart. She also leaves behind a great-niece and great-nephew, Cheyenne Harris and Ezra Harris, along with numerous other great-nieces, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever hold her in their hearts. Barbara’s life was a testament to love, perseverance, and faith. Her legacy lives on in the family she nurtured, the history she preserved, and the countless lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
