Annie Blanche Herring Cassidy

In the peaceful awakening of Monday morning, April 13, 2015, the Lord sent His angels to bring His precious child home for eternal rest. Annie Blanche Herring Cassidy was born September 13, 1933, in Ingold, North Carolina to Frank and Nellie Herring. She was educated in the Sampson County school system and graduated High School as the class valedictorian. Blanche furthered her education at North Carolina A&T State University earning a Bachelor’s Degree in French and History. While there, she was initiated into Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Alpha Mu Chapter, and also met and was married to William Lewis Cassidy. From this union three lovely children were born who were the light of her world. Blanche began her career in Jones County, North Carolina where she taught and coached in Southern Pines and Trenton. She joined the Charlotte Mecklenburg School system in 1960 teaching at both West Charlotte and East Mecklenburg High Schools. She retired after over 30 years in the classroom. Blanche was a faithful and active member of First Baptist Church-West where she taught Sunday school, was Vacation Bible School Superintendent, was on the Board of Christian Education, was Chairman of the Tutoring Committee and was a former Woman of the Year. Blanche had a heart to serve and was very active in the community. She was a member of The Las Amigas of Charlotte (Most Outstanding Member, 2000-2001) and was a member of her much beloved Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Charlotte Alumnae Chapter. Blanche was preceded in death by her parents, all her siblings and her only son, Warren “Bucky” Cassidy. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Cynthia “Bunny” Birks (Victor) of Mitchellville, Maryland and Bianca “BeBi” Cassidy of Hartford, Connecticut; Former husband, William “Bunchie” Cassidy of Charlotte, North Carolina; Grandchildren, Darien V. Birks of Portland, Oregon, Brandon G. Birks of Largo, Maryland, Odette R. S. Cassidy and W. Jeffrey Cassidy of Jacksonville, North Carolina, and Jeremy Prince of Wilmington, North Carolina; Nieces, Hilda Livingston and Yvonne Smith of Clinton, North Carolina, Linda Gray and Bertha Faison of Ingold, North Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
