Alice Virginia Lockhart Barringer

Virginia Lockhart Barringer was born on December 7, 1954, in Chesterfield, South Carolina, to Mr. Edgar Lockhart and the late Juanita McNair Lockhart. She transitioned from labor to reward on Monday, July 27, 2026, at Atrium Main Hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina, surrounded by her loving family. She was affectionately known as “Lil Bit” by her family, church family, and friends. She received her education at Oaklawn Elementary School, Hawthorne Junior High School, and Independence High School, all in Charlotte, North Carolina, graduating from Independence High School in 1975. At an early age, “Lil Bit” joined Parkwood Institutional CME Church under the leadership of her grandmother, Sister Martha Jane McNair. She was devoted to her faith and remained steadfast in her commitment to attending church. Her daughter and sisters lovingly ensured that she was always present for worship and, of course, ready for dinner after service. Alice enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. She was an avid sports fan who loved football and basketball and was a devoted Carolina Panthers fan. She especially enjoyed watching games with her parents before her mother’s passing, and anyone who blocked her view of the television quickly learned that she was not happy about it. She was also a faithful fan of Family Feud and thoroughly enjoyed watching Steve Harvey. Alice was the perfect example of love. She deeply loved her baby girl, her family, and her church. She possessed a magnetic spirit that naturally drew people to her. Whatever she wanted, she often received—not because she demanded it, but because she simply was not afraid to ask. She held a very special place in the hearts of the Parkwood congregation. The memories of “Lil Bit” will forever live in the hearts and minds of her loving and devoted daughter, Tammy Alexander; her loving and caring father, Edgar Lockhart (Glenda) of the home; her brother, Edward Lockhart; her sisters, Glenda Lockhart, Julia Lockhart, and Peggy Lockhart, all of Charlotte, North Carolina; her beloved grandson, Daswjon Alexander; her special nephew, Antoine Lockhart; her special niece, Monique Lockhart Davis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family members, and friends.
