Alice Spencer Boulware

The late Alice Spencer Boulware was born to the late Alice Houston Marshall and Leonard “Big Boy” Edward Spencer. She traded time for eternity on April 25, 2014 at Presbyterian Hospital-Charlotte, NC. Alice attended 2nd Ward Public school and after graduating she continued her education at Carver College now known as CPCC. She received an Associates degree in Early Education, and went on to work for Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools as a Head Start teacher. She later decided to follow her dreams in fashion and started working at Julie’s Fashion Boutique for 15 years; and then she went on to pursue her own business opening a well known boutique that carried high line women’s fashionable suits, hats and accessories. Alice then ventured into the banking corporation and worked for NCNB now known as Bank of America; and then went on to help her late brother Larry E. Marshall to run the family wrecker service formally known as Griffin Transport and Recovery. After her brother’s passing she went on to work for Hilton/Embassy Suites. Alice enjoyed her last years of working with the wonderful extended family of Embassy Suites; she became the “mother” of the back office. Alice has been a life long member of East Stonewall A.M.E. Zion Church where she also accepted Christ into her life at a young age. In her early year she was a diligent worker in the church where she served on the usher board, was a class leader and other ministries in the church. Alice had a mission of her own where she would minister to others through her caring ways. She was a giving person that had concerned for others and their well being. She was well known for sending cards and monetary gifts to many, just to show her love and appreciation. She would always tell her children and grandchildren “make sure you send them a thank you card,” or “…. birthday card.” Alice was well known for her fashionable ways, she was the “sharp dresser,” and “hat queen.” She enjoyed shopping, traveling, reading, dining out, and spending time with family and friends. Those preceding her in death, two brothers Keith Marshall and Larry E. Marshall; and her significant other James “Bump”. She leaves to cherish her fond memories two daughters Wanda E. Hooper (Theodore), Veronica Spencer Carter (Ivan); one son James A. Boulware Jr. (Linda); one very special god daughter Melba “Tutu” Broadnax (Lithonia, Ga); two step-daughters Telita Benjamin (David) (Atlanta, Ga.) and Tiffany Saunders; two sisters Rev. Kaye Spencer (Charlotte, NC), and Len Spencer (College Park, Ga.); three brothers Al Marshall, Eric Marshall (Charlotte, NC) and Leon Spencer (Bronx, NY); one uncle John Houston (Lois); four grandchildren Theodore “Rosha”, Brittany, Y’Carra (William), and India; five great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and dear friends.
