Robert Belfield

Robert “Bobby” Belfield, 66, passed away unexpectedly on April 18, 2023, after a fierce fight with illness. Bobby was born in Bay Shore, New York, on June 22, 1956 to Argenta Harper Belfield of Hollister, NC and Charles Belfield of Roanoke Rapids, NC. A product of Bay Shore schools, Bobby was academically and athletically gifted, playing baseball and basketball with aspirations of a career in journalism. While attending North Carolina Central University, Bobby met Angela Reneé Mingo, the love of his life, and they remained together for 48 happy years, married for 44. After marrying, Bobby and Reneé moved to Alabama where they finished their academic careers at Auburn University. After college, Bobby enjoyed a long career in the housing industry, working in positions at Kohler, Whirlpool, Weslock, and Clayton Homes. He was well known for his vast knowledge of many subjects, sense of humor, and ability to connect with people of all walks of life, making him a standout employee and respected leader at every stage of his career. In 1987, Bobby began his most treasured role in life as a father when he and Reneé welcomed their daughter Aurelia. Bobby adored his family and nothing was more important to him than his role as a family man to those related to him by blood or by choice. He has been D.O.D (Dear Old Dad), Uncle Bobby, Cousin Bobby, Pops, Stinky Feet, Bobby Buckets, Bobby Brown, and Radio Raheem to countless people and has loved each and every one with all his heart. Bobby’s humor and warmth were evident in every aspect of his life, and he was always ready with a joke and a smile for everyone around him. His lifelong love of music allowed him another way to connect with those he cherished, making mix tapes before (and after) it was cool, often sending mix CDs curated from his extensive collection of music to let someone know he was thinking of them. He loved to travel and visited every state (except Alaska), as well as having lived in New York, North Carolina, Alabama, Pennsylvania, Illinois, and Maryland. He knew something about everything, and was generous with his knowledge and an engaging communicator. Bobby is survived by his wife Reneé and daughter Aurelia, his siblings Chalita Belfield, Dawud Salahuddin, and Howard Keith Belfield (Annmarie), his sister-in-law Karen Swinger, six nieces, two nephews, four great-nephews, six great-nieces, two great-great-nephews, one, goddaughter, one great-godson, and a host of other godchildren, cousins, family and friends. He is predeceased by his parents and his brother Charles Belfield (Margaret). His family is grateful to have been loved by him so fiercely for so many years.
